You’re the Head of People & Culture at a bank. It’s the festive season and you’re attending an unusual amount of social events given the easing of Covid-19 restrictions post lockdown – catching up with a range of colleagues and industry peers that you haven’t seen in person for months.
This event sees you attend a fairly sizeable industry gathering and you find yourself talking to Raymond from another department of your organisation.
It’s been a tough year, with lots of challenging projects, and he can’t resist telling you about amore positive project he worked on with a highly valued client that is in the very early stages of development. Raymond shared some fairly confidential details with you about the client’s business and the client’s private life. At the time you felt a little uncomfortable with the amount of detail Raymond was going in to but didn’t say anything.
What you didn’t know, was that an industry peer and friend of the client overheard the conversation. The client has contacted your organisation and identified you as a participant in the conversation and is insisting Raymond be fired for such unprofessional behaviour at an industry social event.
