The ethics of communication

Wednesday 21 August, 2024

thick fog amongst the tree tops

You are head of communications for a small firm that has just experienced a data breach.

Investigations suggest that no data was stolen, which leads the Leadership team to comment that if nothing was taken was there really a breach, and can't we just move on.

You’ve worked hard to establish a good name for the firm through clear communication of the wins and challenges. You know best practice is to be transparent and communicate the breach, recognising that reputation will take a hit, but there is no appetite from leadership to do this.

What do you do?
